In a ceremony held August 1, the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) formally signified its arrival to JBLM from Alaska. The brigade uncased its unit colors, activated or re-designated several subordinate aviation units, and welcomed a new commander.
In March, the DoD announced the move of 16th CAB headquarters from Ft. Wainwright, Alaska to JBLM. The 16th CAB consists of combat, reconnaissance and logistics support aircraft including AH-64 Apache, OH-58 Kiowa, UH-60 Black Hawk, and CH-47 Chinook helicopters; the move will entail the addition of approximately 1,400 new Soldiers and 44 helicopters over the next three years.
The ceremony also marked a change of command for the 16th CAB as Colonel Robert W. Werthman, who has led the unit since August 2009, passed command to Colonel Robert P. Dickerson.
A number of units were also activated or re-designated:
• The 4th Squadron, 6th Air Cavalry Squadron (4/6 ACS), already stationed at JBLM, was re-designated and re-patched as the 4th Squadron, 6th Attack Reconnaissance Squadron (4/6 ARS).
• The 46th Aviation Support Battalion, and the 2nd Battalion, 158th Assault Helicopter Battalion were activated. The addition of the 16th CAB at JBLM is necessary to support mission, training and operations for units assigned to the base. The 16th CAB will give I Corps and its major subordinate commands an unprecedented degree of training and operational flexibility.

"Brandi's patience and professionalism is what I will carry with me from this experience. My home purchase became quite the extended mess, set back after set back, on the sellers part. Without Brandi's ability to explain all the steps we were having to take and retrace, I would have lost my patience. And not once during the whole stereotypical real estate "nightmare" did she lose her cool. Brandi made my first home buying experience one I'll never forget, in a good way!
