This time-honored tradition of making advent wreaths to adorn the streets of the Historic Village during the Christmas Season is just around the corner, and you’re invited to join the festivities.
On Saturday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will gather at DuPont’s old fire department and public works shop located at 301 Louviers Avenue in the Historic Village to make the advent wreaths.
Volunteers should to bring work gloves and hand pruners. Coffee and hot cider will be served. The tradition of making advent wreaths started in the early 1970s as a way to prepare for the upcoming Christmas Season. Villagers and church members gathered together and added fresh greenery to advent wreath frames which were later lighted and hung from the lamp posts throughout the Village. Today the tradition survives because of dedicated volunteers like you. The wreaths will be hung on lamp poles in the Historic Village by City work crews.
