First time military buyers are eligible to apply for a grant for up to $5,000.00 to use for down payments or closing costs. The Dream Makers program through the national nonprofit Pentagon Federal Credit Union can be used with any lender to help you purchase your first home.
Active duty personnel, veterans, retired members of the military, and employees of the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security are eligible to apply.
Having money to use for your closing costs will allow you to negotiate more on the price of the home you want to purchase instead of just having the seller pay your closing costs for you. Your mortgage amount will be lower and in turn so will your monthly payment.
For more information visit www.PentagonFoundation.org and click on the Dream Makers link to view the qualifications.
