National Public Lands Day on Sep 24th Means Free Admission to Mt. Rainier Park
If you didn’t get to visit Mt. Rainier this summer, now’s your chance.National Public Lands Day celebrates public involvement in park upkeep around the nation.In appreciation, national parks around the U.S. will offer free entrance to the public.Mt. Rainier is only about an hour and a half from Yelm or two hours from Olympia making it an easy day excursion for the family.
Mt. Rainier Park will be hosting a volunteer work day on the 24th to plant native plants, maintain trails, and rededicate the Glacier Basin Trail that has been closed four summers for repairs.Floods in November 2006 destroyed the Glacier Basin Trail. But, with help from public volunteers and organizations, the trail is now completely rebuilt.Volunteers for this work day will also receive another free park pass for a day of their choosing.The volunteer project starts 8:00 a.m. this Saturday at the White River Campground Amphitheatre
